Are We Returning to Jim Crow?

I wrote a commentary on The Root about the Justice Department’s decision to go after affirmative action admissions at colleges and universities, and how this is the long-con that will lead us to a return of Jim Crow.

Since his inauguration, Trump, and those in his administration, have shown that they mean to make good on their promise to bring white supremacy back to the forefront. Every policy decision is cloaked—and coded—in the dismantling of everything that has helped give marginalized people even the smallest leg up in a society that is stacked against them in the first place.

Black Leaders In Congress Condemn Antonin Scalia’s Comments On Race

“There are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to get them into the University of Texas, where they do not do well,” Scalia said, “as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school … a slower-track school where they do well.””Most of the black scientists in this country don’t come from schools like the University of Texas,” he added. “They come from lesser schools where they do not feel that … they’re being pushed ahead­­ in classes that are too fast for them.”

This is why your vote counts. Do you realize that if the GOP is able to retain control over the House and the Senate AND take over the White House, they will choose our next Supreme Court?

That is something we cannot have. Please do not be apathetic. Make sure you are registered, and make sure you get out there and vote. Our future depends on it.
