Donald Trump’s new budget proposal will be reveals that he really and truly hates poor people. It comes with major cuts to Medicaid and changes to anti-poverty programs that would allow states to limit a range of benefits for needy families, something that Congress has already been uneasy about.

From my post at The Root:

Trump’s plan follows through on a bill passed by House Republicans to cut more than $800 billion over ten years from Medicaid, a state and federal program that provides healthcare to low-income Americans, the Washington Post reports. Doing that would cut off Medicaid benefits for about 10 million people over the next decade, according to an estimate made by the Congressional Budget Office.

The plan also allows more flexibility for states to create work requirements for people in different anti-poverty programs, which people familiar with the budget plan told the Post could lead to conservative governors making a flood of changes in their states. As it stands, most anti-poverty programs have elements that are run by both the state and the federal government, and a federal order allowing stiffer work requirements for “able-bodied Americans” could limit who can access anti-poverty programs and for how long.

First of all, the budget calls for cuts to Medicaid. They already voted to repeal ACA. Medicaid is the only way some people have healthcare.

Then, the budget allows for individual states to create “work requirements” for people receiving aid like TANF, SNAP, etc.

Let me tell you how you box poor people out with shit like this. You create a requirement for “work” with a blanket term like “able-bodied.” You give no consideration for childcare expenses, which most of the families on these programs have children.  And the way unemployment is set up, where are these people supposed to work?

Listen. Getting welfare is a humiliating experience for anyone. The shit they put you through just to apply!

Have you ever applied for unemployment? In most instances, you have contributed to that fund through payroll deductions, but think about what they put you through just to get your unemployment. Now think about welfare, some shit they are “giving you” “for free.”

Listen. Please go watch “Claudine” if you haven’t already. That movie is a welfare documentary of sorts. Everything in it is true.

Anyway, your president hates poor people. I said what I fucking said.
